Hobonichi Pencil Board // Unsodo
Out of the Hobonichi original accessories, the Hobonichi Pencil Board is one of the most popular items. Keeping it underneath the page you’re writing on allows the reinforcement to provide an enjoyable writing experience. They fit perfectly to the size of the techo book, and will prevent your pen from sliding on the page, and not leave indentations on the opposite page, making for a comfortable writing experience.
Bijutsukai and Shin Bijutsukai are collections of craft designs published in the Meiji era (1868–1912), both books containing beautiful designs by various designers and Japanese painters. We selected three craft designs from these collections published by Unsodo, a Kyoto-based art publishing company and the only publisher of hand-printed woodblock books in Japan, to create pencil boards.
The craft design for the A6 size captures the moment when the reddish leaves fall in small arcs. The contrast with the green leaves in the background is beautiful, and the diagonal lines, which look like sunlight, give the design a sense of sharpness.
The A5 size has a craft design that describes birds playing by the water’s edge. The design depicts nature, yet the water flow is somewhat patterned, and the birds walking together amidst it are adorable.
For the Weeks size, leaves resembling oak trees are arranged in a vivid and rhythmical pattern. This design’s fun combination of pink and yellow will delight you whenever it catches your eye.
All sizes have one striking color chosen for the back, creating a modern impression.
One side is labeled by millimeter to act as a metric ruler, and a “Today” tab on the corner marks the current page if you’d like to use it as a bookmark as well.
We recommend matching them with techo covers and Weeks with Unsodo designs. Try the Hobonichi Pencil Board for yourself and you’ll see how great it is to use.
